All toll fees are to rise as of 1st January 2009

According to the information of the German Haulage, Logistics and Waste Disposal Federation (BGL) the Federal Ministry of Transport is planning an increase of the toll fees as of 1st January, 2009. Depending on the category of harmful substances the fees are to rise generally by 50 to 100 per cent.

The planned increase is based on the report on transport expenses which the Federal Government had ordered to be furnished in December, 2007. However, the BGL doubts the correctness of the basis data assumed in this report. The harmonization, promised by the Federal Government when the toll was introduced three years ago, has still not been effected. According to Mr. Tiefensee, minister of transport, trucks under 12 tons will continue to be exempt from toll fees. Thus he rejected recent claims for the introduction of a toll for trucks over 3.5 tons. As soon as detailed information concerning the toll increase is available to us, we will pass it on to you.
